Exercising for Depression

Did you know that some experts now say that they think that exercise helps depression more than medication?

You may want to read this article from 'depression-guide.com' and see for yourself.

But just in case you can't be bothered reading the whole article, let me just list some of the benefits that were mentioned by those who participated in the exercise program:

*could think more clearly, feel happy, feel better about themselves, lose weight, develop strength and enjoy a sense of well-being
*increased positive mood
*slept better
*had less nervousness and anxiety
*decreased negative mood
*improved vigor
*reduced stress, anger, fatigue
*improved motivation and self-esteem

Would you like to experience any of those benefits?

Next time I am going to tell you about the cheapest exercise you can get and the one that works best for me.

May Dipsy Doodling Around Depression be better than a therapy session!

Don't give up, I'm praying for you!

I remember when I used to run long distances, (6 miles and more), that I used to get oxygen highs. A feeling of euphoria. I am unsure if it was caused by releases in endorphines(do I have the right word)or if it was caused by literally...a lot more oxygen in the blood and carried to the brain.
Certainly, a well exercised body and a fat free body, gives a feeling of well being. An interesting topic. I'm enjoying your blog.

Hi Wendy,

I too find that exercise is helpful. I love to go for walks in the nature parks when I am not too tired. The fresh air and exercise refreshes me. I love to connect with nature too as it reminds me of what a Great God we have, how much He loves us and how He cares for us daily. When I look at the flowers and the birds in the sky I thought of what He said in His Words of how He clothes the lily and feed the sparrow. And we are of more value to Him than many sparrows.

Thanks for your kind visit and encouraging comment! Take care and may God bless you through this week!

Warm regards,
Nancie

Wendy: I'm so glad I read this today! I've been feeling so down this afternoon and didn't know why.

I'm off to walk with my husband for half an hour. I hope it works!

Fredericks,
I used to run a mile every day. I know that high feeling! I had to give it up due to my back. But walking is a gentler high for me. There is the physical increase of oxygen combined with the pleasant daydreaming about the things that I am observing at a slower pace. Thanks for dropping by!

Hi Nancie,
I am always encouraged and hopeful when I hear from you for I know that you are at least feeling well enough to read stuff on your computer! I am so glad you have discovered the joy of walking. I agree, that being in God's great and magnificent outdoors reminds us of his beautiful provision for each of us and all of us. Hang in there...

Jeanette,
So, did the walk help? I actually walk alone most of the time. I find that it is more therapeutic for me and I can be alone with my thoughts while walking. If I was going to choose a walking partner though, it would be my husband! Hope you enjoyed your walk and that it helped to improve your mood. We are having some wonderful weather here, hope you are getting some too!
